Travelling.
There are three different types of travel:
Travelling is moving to a variety of places by a variety of ways for any period of time. A type of travelling is Inbound; tourists from other countries coming into the UK for various reasons with the intention to return back to where they came from within a period of time. Outbound; UK residents leaving the country with the intention of returning after some time. And finally Domestic; tourists travelling within their own country for periods of time for different reasons but returning home afterwards.
There are three different sectors of tourism and attractions available:
The private sector- This sector is a self funding sector. They focus on making a profit as they have to fund themselves so bringing in money is highly important to them. Examples of the private sector would be Alton Towers; Thomas Cook; National Express etc which all link to the travel industry.
The public sector- This sector is funded by the government, local and national, so the companies involved are not as interested in making a profit. The main aim of the public sector is to educate, inform and provide a service. Examples include things such as museums galleries and leisure centers.
The voluntary sector- This sector is often charities or trusts and is funded through members from buying things such as entrance fees and fundraising sponsorship's. Their aim is to preserve, protect and promote their cause and they are usually staffed by paid managers, workers and volunteers. Examples such as The National Trust, Youth Hostel Association and The Sealed Knot.
Tourist attractions:
To attract tourists - both inbound and domestic - and therefore profit; places have different types of attractions. There are four types that attract tourists,
1) Purpose Built- Built attractions such as the Eiffel tower bring in a large amount of people which means Paris will have an increase in profit.
2) Heritage - Castles for example attract tourists however where not purposely built for attraction purposes.
3) Natural - Natures beautiful locations attract tourists as they like to admire natural beauty. Places such as natural parks e.g. The Lake District.
4) Events - Events that are very well known and happen regularly such as Festivals attract domestic tourists and larger events such as The London Olympics 2012 attract people to certain places and therefore increase profit.
